1- What Is Bungee Fitness?
Bungee Fitness is a full-body workout that combines cardio and strength. Each participant wears a harness connected to a bungee that is adjusted based on their height, weight, and preferences. Studios may give you a certain number of bungee cords, or may have different colored cords for different resistance levels. It is most common to have a harness with a single attachment point at the back of the harness to the bungee cord, but some studios use two attachment points at each hip point.
The height of your bungee studio will determine how much lift you get during moves and what sequences can be put together. Some studios will utilize a pulley system, where others use daisy chains and ladders to set your height. There are many set-ups for bungee fitness that allow you to fly.
The instructor will queue the timing and give you modifications for higher-impact moves. This fun workout lets you jump, fly, and bounce, letting you feel weightless while building your strength and endurance.
2- Is There a Weight Limit For Bungee Fitness?
This question will vary by studio based on their rigging set-up. However, we will speak to our bungee fitness weight limitations at South Dakota Aerial & Arts.
Based on our studio rigging for bungee fitness, we do not have a specific weight limit. However, classes are most comfortable for individuals who can fit most comfortably into the bungee harnesses. We offer two styles of harnesses - one with padding that is connected between the legs, and one with separate padding for each leg. We find that heavier individuals prefer the separate leg harnesses.
We recommend that individuals who weigh 300 pounds or more schedule a harness fitting before signing up for a beginner bungee fitness session. This will give you peace of mind before signing up that you will comfortably fit in the harness.. If you would like to try on a harness before you sign up for a class, please email info@sdaerialarts.com to arrange a time.

3- What Does a Bungee Fitness Class Look Like?
When you arrive for a bungee class, you will first be fitted into a harness and assigned a spot where we will attach your bungee(s). We'll have on upbeat workout music that you can jump to and use to pace your skills. Know that you are welcome to take a break at any point!
In your bungee fitness class, you will learn the basics of trusting your bungee. One key component is understanding that the list of the bungee comes when you are at your "end points," or the further point away from where you are attached to the ceiling/rigging. As you get more comfortable, you will learn different jumps, fitness moves, how to hold onto the bungee, and combine moves together.
You should expect to get a good workout and really work up a sweat. Bungee is most similar to a cardio dance workout like Zumba, or a HIIT workout if you really want to push yourself!

4- What Should I Wear/Bring to a Bungee Class?
We recommend wearing sweatpants or leggings that go past the knee. This will help you avoid bunching under the harness. A T-shirt or full-length tank top is also recommended. The harness lies against your mid-section, and wearing a full-length shirt will be most comfortable.
We recommend wearing clean gym shoes for the class - this is new in 2026 as we upgraded our flooring. Grip socks or bare feet are also acceptable, but tennis shoes are recommended. Footwear recommendations will differ by studio.
Since you will be connected to a bungee cord, we recommend that you bring a water bottle that you can place next to your bungee station. Make sure you bring one that closes fully, as it is common to have flyers take out a water bottle during class.
5- How Old Does Someone Need to Be to Attend a Bungee Class? Are There Any Age Restrictions?
All standard bungee classes are for individuals 16 years of age or older. We have had many individuals in their 70s-80s enjoy our bungee classes as a fun, low-impact form of fitness. We have even had individuals who struggle to walk without a walker take private bungee sessions, as it gave them a sense of freedom to walk and not worry about falling. Bungee is a great activity and workout for individuals of all ages, and can be modified in a variety of ways!
Kids can attend the class alongside a parent if they are 12 years of age or older. Private sessions are open to individuals of all ages, and kid's love celebrating their birthdays with a bungee party. We recommend that kids 4 and up to be able to bounce, and 6 and up if they want to participate in games and skill progressions.
We offer bungee for younger kids in our kid's camps and sporadically for Kid's Bungee.
6- How Many People Can Take a Bungee Class at a Time, and How Long Are The Classes?
At South Dakota Aerial & Arts, we have 14 bungee fitness points available. Each participant gets their own point that connects to a bungee, and then to their harness to control their resistance and height. For kid's camps we will add additional bungee fitness points, but this limits your jumping radius.
All public bungee classes have 13 spots available, as the instructor utilizes one of the spots during class. Private sessions and parties can utilize all 14 points at a time.
A standard bungee class is 45 minutes; however, with height adjustments and set-up, we expect that you will be at the studio for 1 hour. The first few minutes will allow you to find the right height for your workout and request adjustments if needed. Private group classes are one hour, and there is time given within this window for participants to take photos and/or videos.

7- Do You Offer Private Bungee Classes?
Absolutely! Private group sessions start at $38 per person; large group discounts are available for groups of 10 or more. Groups of 6 or more will get a 1-hour class with the gym all to yourselves. The maximum group size is 14 people. The recommended size is between 4-14 participants. Want to turn your session into a blacklight bungee class - ask us about our glow classes. See all of our information and pricing on private classes here.
Kids 4+ are welcome to attend private bungee sessions, but for the full experience, we recommend kids being at least 6 years old.

8- What Else Should I Know Before Taking a Bungee Class?
Bungee workout classes will make moves that may be hard out of the harness way easier. Many participants have been able to do cartwheels, burpees, jumps, and handstands for the very first time with the help of the bungee.
There is a rigging assistant available at the beginning of every class to help you find the right level of resistance and adjust your harness. Your harness should be fairly loose before starting your class, as the resistance will tighten it around your thighs and waist. We recommend always starting looser with your harness and tightening it if it starts to ride up in the back.
We have bungees of varying resistances; however, there are many circumstances where we need to use multiple bungee cables to get your resistance set properly. We have found many participants like the multiple bungees as it allows them to fly more easily, and it gives them two handlebars for moves that involve holding the bungee.
The harness has padding around it, but it may still lead to some minor bruising. If you see that the padding is coming out from under the straps, please tuck it back under. We have transitioned to all of the "comfortable" harnesses, but these can still feel tight, as there is a lot of resistance to create the "weightlessness" effect. If you feel chaffing or rubbing, your harness is likely too tight. We try to make you as comfortable as possible, but recognize that you will likely still have what we call "ugly butt syndrome" during the class and some tension due to the nature of how the bungees are rigged.
Some people use one bungee while others use two - we have a variety of bungees with different resistance levels, so staff will use the right combination for your height, weight, and preference to optimize your experience.
Men and boys also enjoy bungee - this isn't an activity that is just for women/girls. It is great for date nights and family activities.

How do you know how much tension to have in the bungee? We kept trying to adjust tension today but never “hovered” above the floor. Should tension allow you to “hover” without contacting floor? If correct tension, are you on your tippy toes if not directly under rope?
Tried bungee fitness recently and didn’t expect it to be such a full-body burner. It’s wild fun, but your muscles will feel it the next day for sure! Recovery became a priority, and I started taking organic ashwagandha to help with stress and muscle fatigue. Found great Vegishake ashwagandha capsules – pure, vegan, no junk added. Helps keep me balanced and reduces soreness. If you’re doing high-intensity stuff like this, trust me – good recovery supplements are not optional. Makes the whole experience way more sustainable.
